Hypnotherapy is a natural and easy way to stop smoking
There are all kinds of good reasons to stop smoking, such as increased health & fitness, saving money, cleaner clothes and homes, setting a good example to children, and living a longer and happier life. The only thing deterring many people is fear that quitting smoking may be difficult or uncomfortable.
However, with hypnotherapy, it can be much easier than you think to quit smoking for good! A single 90-minute session can be all it takes. Vanessa can help you to feel confident about quitting, seeing it as a positive choice where you have a real opportunity to improve your life.
Why is hypnotherapy so effective?
When you decide to stop smoking, you may need to deal with two issues:
Losing the smoking habit – which can be done more quickly and easily through hypnotherapy
Managing physical withdrawal symptoms - which can be eased by using Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT)

Losing the smoking habit |
|
Smoking is a learned habit, stored in your subconscious mind:
· Most smokers tend to smoke more at certain times or in particular situations.
- Your subconscious mind sets us links between those situations and smoking
- Your subconscious mind then uses those links as triggers to prompt you to smoke
Hypnotherapy works directly with the subconscious mind, and can help to remove these unwanted triggers. In their place, it can install new, responsible and positive approaches to those old trigger situations. It can also strengthen your awareness of the unhealthy and antisocial aspects of smoking. Following hypnotherapy, smoking can suddenly become something you simply do not want to do ever again. |

Physical symptoms |
|
Smokers’ bodies become used to – perhaps even addicted to – the physical effects of nicotine. Sudden withdrawal can cause feelings of anxiety, restlessness, irritability and even mild depression.
For some people, these symptoms may be reasonably mild or short-lived, but others may find them very hard to withstand.
Nicotine replacement therapy – patches, lozenges or sprays – offers a way to withdraw more gradually, reducing the effects more gently. NRT may be freely available from your GP, or can be purchased from pharmacies. |
Please note:
Smokers who think they are likely to experience physical withdrawal symptoms can choose to use NRT in conjunction with hypnotherapy. This is not ‘cheating’ – it can be an even more effective way of stopping smoking, particularly for clients who have smoked heavily for many years.
Statistics – success rates for stopping smoking through hypnotherapy
People often ask about the success rates of hypnotherapy. The requirement for client confidentiality makes it impossible to check and verify the success rates claimed by any particular therapist, and therefore makes such claims rather meaningless. However, wider studies have shown it to be extremely effective.
In 1992, New Scientist Magazine published the results of an extensive clinical study on the most effective ways of stopping smoking*. They combined the results of more than 600 studies (involving over 72,000 individual cases), and showed that you are 10 times more likely to stop smoking after one session of hypnosis than people who use willpower alone.
They found the following success rates for different ways of stopping smoking:
Single session of hypnotherapy: 60% |
|
Acupuncture: 24% |
|
Nicotine Replacement Therapy: 10% |
|
Willpower alone: 6% |
